Bespoke Multi-Sensory Board – Shipley Glen Tramway

Moor Time is a wonderful charity based in Ilkley West Yorkshire, providing fun and exciting respite activities for young people with additional needs. As part of Historic England’s ‘History in the Making’ initiative, Moor Time gained funding to create a Multi-sensory accessible Place Marker for the Shipley Glen Tramway Museum.

Shipley Glen Tramway is a preserved funicular tramway opened in 1895 by Sam Wilson, a local publican, showman and entrepreneur. Initially it allowed for easier access to a number of other attractions on site but has since become a well preserved piece of history and attraction in its own right. 

This project saw the young people at Moor Time research the history of the Tramway and subsequently create art work, produce and edit a story, source objects for reference, and collate recordings of people talking about their memories of the Tramway – all to be later presented on a sensory board at the Tramway museum itself.
