Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium

{
Our ‘Mission: Humphrey’ exhibit is hugely popular with our visitors. It’s so lovely seeing families using the technology together to strengthen their STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) knowledge.

– Ben Ward, Chief Executive at Winchester Science Centre.

Winchester Science Centre welcomes over 170,000 families and school groups each year. There are two floors of interactive exhibits, live science demos and shows, nature activities and the UK’s largest standalone planetarium. The Centre is aimed primarily at 5 – 12 year olds and what better way to educate future generations about science than through hands-on interactive fun?

The ‘Mission: Humphrey’ interactive exhibit at Winchester Science Centre places children on an interactive adventure to rescue Humphrey the Humpback Whale and reunite him with mum and their pod.

A number of our audio visual solutions were used to provide multi-media for this exhibit alongside an activity worksheet children complete as they make their way around the various stations. For example at one location different natural and man-made sounds can be heard, recreating what whales would hear on their journey underwater back to the pod.

The Science Centre used a combination of Single Cup Headphones, Speakers, SoundClips and Open Frame Video Screens to bring the exhibit to life. Some stations simply utilised auto-play content that activates with pick-up of the handset, while others give the visitor a range of options via push buttons. Two stations utilised 10″ open frame video screens to provide video content as well as audio. Ben Ward, Chief Executive at Winchester Science Centre said this about the exhibit,

“Our Mission: Humphrey exhibit is hugely popular with our visitors. It’s so lovely seeing families using the technology together to strengthen their STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) knowledge.“
