Audio Frames installed in exhibition at American University of Kuwait

The Oral History and Documentation Project (OHDP) at the American University of Kuwait (AUK), is all about making important oral histories available to the public. As part of this project the OHDP launched their first exhibition in Kuwait City. The exhibition was created in collaboration with Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) and entitled “Voices from the Occupation: The Unearthing of Memory & History through Storytelling.”

As Abdulaziz Almahmeed, Coordinator for the Oral History and Documentation Project explains;

In this exhibition, panels corresponding to individual narrators were showcased, each containing photographs from the narrators’ personal collections, which pertain to different periods of their personal histories. The audio devices used had short recordings of the showcased narrators telling anecdotes and stories that took place during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in 1990. The exhibition visitors could engage with the captioned visuals on the panels while listening to the recordings, and the experience of the narrator comes to life in the visitor’s mind.

This project is a great showcase of the Audio Frames in action, performing exactly the task they were designed, to allow simple installation of push-button activated audio that can be easily updated when required to offer new audio as and when required.
