43″ Freestanding Kiosk and LB3 Software – North Lincolnshire Museum

{

“The touchscreen has been a great way to showcase photographs of the group’s activities and host introductory films with each Maker.”

– Rebecca Lucas, Collections Officer for North Lincolnshire Council

First opened as Scunthorpe Museum in 1909, The now ‘North Lincolnshire Museum’ invites visitors to explore the history of the surrounding area. Using traditional museum interpretation as well as new technologies, the museum shares the history from North Lincolnshire’s geological origins to the modern day. Rebecca Lucas, the Collections Officer for North Lincolnshire Council, goes on to explain our recent contribution;

43 Inch Kiosk in On The Map exhibition at North Lincolnshire Museum

“The touchscreen was first used in our On The Map exhibition and was purchased to enable visitors to zoom in on items from our map collection. The Touchscreen has been used consistently in our temporary exhibitions since 2021. The software options are flexible and enable us to include content relevant to each exhibition.”

“This has ranged from films and photographs of objects in our collection to interactive artworks. The touchscreen is currently being used in our Museum Makers exhibition. This exhibition was put together by our Museum Makers group for adults with additional needs. The touchscreen has been a great way to showcase photographs of the group’s activities and host introductory films with each Maker.”

The large 43″ Free Standing touchscreen operates as the perfect platform for our flagship Lightbox 3 Museum Software. Pictured here, you can see the ‘Collections’ application has been used to great effect by the museum staff who regularly update and alter the multi-media displayed (via the easy to use content management system) to align with the subject matter for the ever adapting exhibitions. Since then, the kiosk’s use has been expanded with the inclusion and use of additional Lightbox 3 Apps such as Browser, Quiz and Hotspot, and has been used across subsequent exhibitions as a result, including The New Folk exhibition and the Bones and Burial exhibitions.
