Curraghs Blog

Large cats, birds of prey, primates and the always popular Meerkats, Penguins and Red Pandas…. animal lovers can find them all in Isle of Man’s Curraghs Wildlife Park. We’ve had the pleasure of working with the Park a few times over the years so thought it would be good to combine all of those individual projects into a single informative post…. and here it is. An introduction to how we brought audio to the outdoor space that is Curraghs Wildlife Park with our eco friendly AV units.

Heavy Duty Audio Bench

The Curragh Nature Trail runs through a wetland that is a site of International Importance thanks to its rich and varied biodiversity. Along this route you’ll find our completely solar powered Heavy Duty Bench, installed with two buttons, custom engraved front plate and made from a durable thick oak the audio bench is built to last. With no mains power needed the bench brings outdoor audio interpretation to any location (that boasts at least some daylight).

U-Turn Round

Elsewhere along the Nature Trial,  you’ll be able to find one of our U-Turn Rounds, serving a similar function as the Solar Audio Bench but utilising wind-up power instead of solar, this prompts a more engaging means of interaction and is always popular especially with younger children. Weather and vandal resistant, visitors simply select an audio track and turn the wheel to power the device and hear audio regarding the Park’s many animals. In this case the Park utilised an export collar to mount it to their own wooden stand, they also opted for customised ‘batwings’ that allowed the inclusion of easy to read instructions and track lists.

Oversized UTR Panel

The first project we completed at Curraghs Wildlife Park’s was in the new (then) Silvery Gibbon enclosure; an Oversized U-Turn Round was built into a lovely signage panel. This is essentially the same as the above but placed in a graphics panel and fitted with bespoke outdoor headphones (to avoid confusing the gibbons with audio). This gives visitors at Curraghs Wildlife Park the opportunity to listen and learn about the Silvery Gibbons and the work that the park does in helping them from becoming extinct.
