U-Turn Rounds – Monsal Trail

{
Their simply design and easy to use features also ensures that maintenance is next to nothing and they can be easily operated by anyone enjoying the trail.
Working with inHeritage and the Peak District National Park Authority, blackbox-av produced three U-Turn Rounds for use on the Monsal Trail, an area known for its disused train tunnels which were recently restored and reopened in May 2011 for walkers, cyclists and horse riders after being closed in 1968.

Each U-Turn provides an audio history for the beautiful trail, which runs alongside the River Wye, to celebrate the reopening and the history of the area. A Sheffield based band were also commissioned to produce music reflecting the history and events which had taken place on the trail, providing entertainment as well as information.

These sound stores were perfect for this application given their durable design, meaning they can easily tolerate the weather experienced in such an open area, as well as anything else nature may through at them. As they are powered by users, no expensive or complicated work was required to supply power to them from a mains line, which may have resulted in a length stretch of countryside being dug up to lay cables. Their simply design and easy to use features also ensures that maintenance is next to nothing and they can be easily operated by anyone enjoying the trail.

inHeritage chose to work with blackbox-av after working together on a project for the National Trust and these three U-Turns have been very well received, with visitors taking the time to listen to every audio track each unit has to offer.
