Eco-Town, Farington Waste Recovery Park
Blackbox-av helped us create an interactive experience in Eco Town, with a variety of hands-on activities across all three zones at the education centre. Games, touch screens, videos and audio were incorporated into every part of the walkway to create a memorable experience.

Based at the Farington Waste Recovery Park, Eco-Town is an immersive, interactive experience offering students a learning journey similar to that of a science discovery centre, showcasing what happens to our waste with a particular focus on recycling.
ICG Strategic Marketing Agency were given the massive task of creating Eco Town for Farington Waste Recovery Park. Sarah Huddy, Head of Design for ICG, explains how Blackbox-av were also involved;
Blackbox-av helped us create an interactive experience in Eco Town, with a variety of hands-on activities across all three zones at the education centre. Games, touch screens, videos and audio were incorporated into every part of the walkway to create a memorable experience.
The team at Blackbox-av were great to work with, embracing every challenge we set them. From a bespoke MRF conveyor belt game to a scaled down trommel sorter, they delivered everything to a high specification and within budget considerations.
One of the many bespoke builds includes a Magnet Grabber game, offering an interactive fun way to convey how metals are separated during the recycling process.
A few more bespoke builds include a large Waste Hierarchy board which lights up in sequence – and a spin and match game where visitors can spin to pair the correct uniforms for certain jobs.
You’ll also find our range of various mediascreens put to good use playing various video content on loop. Meanwhile our Heavy Duty Handsets paired with Recoilers create five audio units. Users simply raise the Handsets to trigger content and learn about the various roles of workers on the site.
Our museum interactive software – Lightbox 3 – was also utilised here, paired with 15″ touchscreen units using a mix of the quiz and feedback apps.
The Eco Town project involved a wide range of hardware, software and bespoke interactive builds which together provide a more involved and engaging means to learn about the importance of recycling.
