Bespoke NFC TV – Penmaenmawr Museum
The unit itself was designed and built by us to replicate a 70’s era TV, it consists of unique cabinetry that pairs our 15″ Open Frame Video Screen and an NFC reader – allowing chips embedded into each item to trigger the video content.
An independent community museum and registered charity, Penmaenmawr Museum and its volunteers look after an archive of artefacts, documents and photographs, as well as lead many events within the community that focus on the preservation of local heritage.
Penmaenmawr Museum were looking for an interactive way to engage visitors with their handling collection. Located in their temporary exhibition gallery this involves a number of items that can be inspected by visitors. They also wanted something that could be used during their ‘Hiraeth’ days, to work with people in the community on reminscence projects.
The result? A range of replica items available for visitors to freely pick up and inspect, offering a greater sense of what our ancestors used over millennia, as far back as the stone age even. To learn more, visitors simply place these items on top of a nearby ‘TV’ and a video will play detailing what each item is and how they were used.

It’s a simple yet very effective way to encourage interaction with the items and provide further insight as to how they would have been used in the past.
