Interactive Kiosk & Software – Welsh Assembly Government

{

Content can be added and edited via the simple to use CMS (content management system) built into the software. This allows the client to add new projects in the ‘backend’ which will then be displayed to the public via the ‘front end’.

We were commissioned to design and build this custom interactive kiosk for the Welsh Assembly Government. We were also tasked with developing the kiosks software.

The Kiosk

The brief required a large kiosk that could easily be moved when required, it would house a large 42″ multi-touch screen as well as an onboard printer. In terms of aesthetic the kiosk would need to meld nicely with the more traditional decor of the rooms in which it was to be used.

We opted for a simple wooden design and developed a cabinet that looked much like a traditional writing desk, with just the large touchscreen clearly visible on the front that indicates the fact modern technology is within. The kiosk itself has 4 hidden wheels and handles on either side that allows easy transportation but does not detract from the finished look.

Kiosk Software

The purpose of this interactive kiosk is to showcase various projects from the Welsh Assembly Government. The aim was to create software that allows easy navigation of thumbnails, which can then be selected to display further details of each project. Some of these projects include documents that can be printed and taken away for future reference.

We opted for a slick ‘iPod’ style GUI (graphical user interface) where thumbnails are displayed in a carousel which flows to the left and right, once selected the thumbnail will open to reveal greater details of each project. These details can consist of images, videos, PDF’s and word documents which can be printed out via the onboard printer and accessed through a compartment in the rear of the unit.

Content can be added and edited via the simple to use CMS (content management system) built into the software. This allows the client to add new projects in the ‘backend’ which will then be displayed to the public via the ‘front end’.
