Vale of Glamorgan County Library 2007

The Vale of Glamorgan Library occupies the restored Edwardian Barry Town Hall and adjoining contemporary steel, glass and brick extension. So the new structure is an interesting landmark for the town of Barry, rooted in the landscape and the history of the town, combined with an ultra-modern and forward looking library service.

The new library was opened on the 4th January 2007 by the then Vale of Glamorgan Mayor, Councillor Nic Hodges, in front of camera crews from the BBC and S4C. Since the renovation the library has been a great success, with over 3,000 visitors on the first day. This exciting new building recently finished joint second in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Wales award.

Audio-Visual Installation

Audio Visual Installation We installed three information systems using 40” LCD screens able to play a mixture of signals from either, Freeview digital television receivers, DVD players or game consoles within the library. All signals to the screens were passed through a blackbox-av signal amplifier and a switching av controller. We also supplied another 40” LCD screen for the main entrance lobby window to act as an information point for visitors and passers by. This is powered by one of our video playback devices linked to the library’s PC network. The staff can enter new stories and images through an easy to use interface we supplied, and then just send the new information to the screen player at a click of a button. We also supplied and installed a five CD listening post with headset in the teenager zone and an advanced remote style CD listening post for the AV library area, which currently has a five CD play list.
