Polesworth Abbey 2011
This installation at Polesworth Abbey was made up of several areas in several buildings.
Porters Lodge
Inside the lodge the porter, William Lake is sat as his desk holding the keys to the gatelodge. As visitors enter the lodge they can activate the light and audio by touching the keys of the porter.
The Porter’s Lodge is very dark and the idea is for vistitors to look out trough the window and have to squint in the same way the porter would have done to see the visitors without being seen himself.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
History Room
In the history room a large seat incorporates a pressure switch. When someone sits in the seat, the switch activates a video clip on a large screen and tells the history of Poleswoth Abbey.
Rectory
The rectory has another screen containing 8 videos which can be activated by pressing one of the corresponding buttons.
Stairway
Features our popular movement activated speaker (Message In A Speaker) which gives audio playback to vistitors as they walk up the stairs.
Mains Control
The electronics fitted by blackbox-av were all placed on the same circuit so at the start and end of each day a key activated switch could be used to turn the power on and off.
Feedback
” We’ve been able to review it with some teachers and have some trial runs. The installation does work very effectively.”
Father Philip, Polesworth Abbey
