Monmouth Shire Hall 2010

Shire Hall is a Grade I listed building which dates back to 1724 and is at least the fourth building to be on this site. Previous building were also Courthouses and market halls.

The building has recently undergone a £4.5 million refurbishment to restore it to its original courthouse appearance and was opened by Princess Anne in late September 2010.

“The interpretation displays will undoubtedly become a hub for students and  visitors  alike, with activities and tours that will make learning fun and bring history to life. The project has received tremendous support from the community, particularly the Shire Hall Stewards and is sure to become a jewel in Monmouth’s crown.”

Shire Hall opened to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as part of ‘Heritage Open Days’, organised by the Civic Trust for Wales, giving people a chance to see how the building has been transformed.

Mike Booth, Shire Hall’s General Manager said:

“The response was great from people who visited and many people comment to me and told us on Twitter that they were impressed with the improvements we’ve made.”

The AV Installation

blackbox-av catered for all the audio visual requirements from Shire Hall. Where necessary we worked closely with the fit out contractors to co-ordinate the av design and installation.

The installation features screens and content for the welcome area.

Interactive hand held video guide system with full content and HD video creation.

Custom video guide charging system

From a user experience the welcome area has large screens which display a welcome video about the courthouse. Visitors are then able to hire a newly developed  interactive hand held video guide to explore around the courthouse. The interactive content is available in multi language and have headphones to output a quality sound to the audience without excessive noise pollution.

The interactive video guide displays a series of interactive HD recreated videos and associated information for the visitor to explore within the museum. The content explains about the case of three Chartists Frost, Williams and Jones, a case which became highly controversial. The case ran from New Years Eve 1839 and were sentenced on 16 January 1840….to find out their sentence get along to Shire Hall.

A bespoke charger unit was designed to hold all the video guides and with in a convenient location behind the welcome guest area providing ease of use for staff and a superb learning platform for visitors.
