123 Jump Indoor Play Centre 2006
This new attraction is designed to provide a safe and active play environment for children aged from 0-12 years. There are currently three centres in Cardiff, Bristol and Plymouth open seven days a week. Each centre has three enormous play frames, each based on a separate theme. There is an outer space zone, a pirate treasure galleon and an enchanted castle. There is also a large toddler zone, lots of trampolines, ten-pin bowling, huge inflatables, an indoor football pitch, a sensory room, six party rooms and a café at each centre.
blackbox-av was tasked to supply audio interactives to amuse and surprise children as they go through each of the themed zones. We installed a dozen of our own Envoy sound boxes around the site, which were variously activated by the children triggering passive infrared sensors or hitting big friendly buttons on the walls and play areas. On activation a set of themed sound effects are played linked to that particular play environment. The audio effect themes covered animals, a pirate galleon at sea, sports events, computer games, an exciting car chase, outer space and an enchanted forest. A special “alright” sound effect with applause was created to reward children for successfully reaching the top of the climbing wall.
Interactive Creation and Installation
Our creative team recorded many of the interactive sound effects in our sound studio, sourced the rest from commercial sound libraries and then mixed them all together to create the final recordings. Our installation engineers then visited the 123 Jump site and placed the audio units in secure and safe locations appropriate to the special requirements of the child friendly environment.
